Milissa Santos spotted the San Jose cop in the next lane chatting on his cell phone as she drove down Meridian Avenue a couple of weeks ago. The sight made her curious and then a little peeved.

The officer was holding the phone to his ear, gabbing away. Hey, she wondered, what about the hands-free law that went into effect July 1?

“It took me by surprise,” said the 42-year-old customer service manager at Cisco, one of dozens of irate drivers who called Roadshow to complain after seeing police using cell phones. “It was obvious that his call was not work-related, as he was having a jolly good time laughing.”

Like it or not, police are exempt from the new law and can legally use a hand-held phone. [...continue...]

Another one of those laws that us regular citizens have to follow, but law enforcement/government do not. They are above the law.
How many more criminals has this law created from those would be law abiding citizens in a free country?

The excuse that many cops wear an ear piece connected to their scanner is a bunch of crap. Maybe the ones running dispatch buy not the officer on the street. I have never seen a cop on the street with an ear piece in.

If Susie wants to do something about, start taking photos of the cops talking on their cellphones. Setup a website something like copsoncellphones.com and have people submit their own photos.
The more people that see the hypocrisy the better.
