Where no website has gone before

December 28, 2005

The new guy at work will wet his pants when he sees this.
Do you like Star Trek? Ok, maybe like is not strong enough.
Do you live Star Trek? Well if you do and your website does not look like this, you are well, behind the curve.
The LCARDS Standards Development Board

For the nonST geek LCARS is an acronym for the Library Computer Access and Retrieval System interface used on Federation starships in Star Trek.

It looks purdy. It won’t happen with this site, but if you’re into it enjoy.

The thought screen helmet

November 17, 2005

The thought screen helmet blocks telepathic communication between aliens and humans. Aliens cannot immobilize people wearing thought screens nor can they control their minds or communicate with them using their telepathy. When aliens can’t communicate or control humans, they do not take them.

Star Trek Actor George Takei Comes Out

November 3, 2005

Sulu

George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu steered the Starship Enterprise through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.
Takei told The Associated Press on Thursday that his new onstage role as psychologist Martin Dysart in “Equus,” helped inspire him to publicly discuss his sexuality. [.continue.]

Sulu is gay!
Ok, do I really care? Should anyone really care?
The whole coming out thing is getting a bit old.
Finding this out about Takei, does it change how I feel about him or Star Trek?
Not at all.
What he does in his personally life is his own business.
No wonder Kirk got all the alien babes.

Were lost, but were making good time. -Sulu

Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning

October 2, 2005

Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning is a parody made by fans of Star Trek and Babylon 5.

The first Finnish full-length scifi parody is made from astounding special effects, action and loads of dark humour. It is the product of a core group of five Finns and many people who’ve helped us during the seven years it has been in the making. You can download the entire movie for free, of course.

The English is subtitled, still funny though.

Top 50 Science Fiction TV Shows

September 25, 2005

Found this on Slashdot
Bostin.com rated Top 50 Science Fiction TV Shows

The original Star Trek series was #1. I use to like Star Trek TOS. I tried watching it a couple months ago, seemed painful to watch. That and the original BSG, I can not watch any more, they just seem bad.
The new BSG came in #2. I agree it is a good show, I think though they should have left brand new shows out of the top 50. Who knows where that show is going, it could possible crap out in a year or so.
Babylon 5 came in at #5. I am glad they recognized B5 for being a great show. I still think B5 is the greatest underrated and underappreciated sci-fi series ever made.
3rd Rock From the Sun was always hilarious and should have garnered a higher ranking than 48.
As a kid I remember watching The Greatest American Hero, which made the list. The only thing I remember from the show is the guy could not land. Might have to rent it from Netflix to see more bad TV I use to watch.

Minority Report

Minority Report

Minority Report

It is the year 2054 - Washington D.C. - dreams can be recreated through computers, computer monitors and displays are transformed into holograms, and identification is done through eye-scanning. John Anderton (Tom Cruise) lost his son, and to prevent horrible events from occurring to other individuals he joins a unit known as “Pre-Crime” - where murderers are arrested before they can commit the murder. How does Pre-Crime work? Through 3 people known as “precogs”. They are 3 psychics used to see the future and they see murders exactly the way they will occur. Through advanced technology, Pre-Crime officers are able to see what the precogs see, and they analyze the data, identify the perpetrator and victim, and try their best to stop the murder from occurring. The perpetrator is put into a sleep state with a device called a “halo”. John Anderton gets accused of murdering a man he has never even met, causing him to run from Pre-Crime and prove his innocence.

The term Minority Report was used to reference flaws in the precog’s vision. When one of the precog’s visions did not match the other two, it was called a Minority Report and quietly discarded.
Minority Report was a good sci-fi movie. I’d give it a 4 out of 5 rating.

Pre-crime is an interesting concept, but I don’t see it as being acceptable, at least not in my life time.

Some off topic stuff…
Tom Cruise has been getting a bad rap in the media lately and probably deserves so.
I don’t follow the celebrity news that much, but have been hearing about his antics lately.
Going from Nicole Kidman to Penelope Cruz to Katie Holmes.
That bothers me more than some of his Scientology comments like his interview with Matt Lauer.
I don’t agree with him 100% but I understand what he is trying to say. Basically, that we as a society take too many drugs. Many people that are currently on these types of medication, if they would make lifestyles changes, be it diet, exercise, change careers, etc, could take care of their problems without drugs. But he takes it too far by just making a blanket statement that all people can do this, but in reality they can’t. So the meds help many people that need it.

Let us not forget his Oprah appearance.

Aye laddie, warp speed

Mr Scott

A very sad day today with Scotty (James Doohan) passing on.
Born March 3, 1920, Doohan did so much more than just being Scotty.
He served in the Canadian army and was part of the d-day invasion in WW2. Landing on Juno beach he took 6 bullets in the conflict, 4 in his leg, one took off a finger and one in the chest. The chest bullet was stopped by his silver cigarette case.
Wow.
Almost as impressive is him fathering a child at age 80.
I did not know any of this until today, like many star trek fans he was just Scotty.
The engineer with the can do attitude.
Scotty will surely live on for many years to come.
“I’m giving her all she’s got, Captain!” Yes, Scotty you certainly did.

Captain Benjamin Sisko
Captain Benjamin Sisko- You struggle with the most
difficult of ethical decisions. You feel lost
in a life that you feel have no control over.
The fact that you’re right doesn’t ease your
pain any. Ironically, you are also considered
the spirtual guide to the people of Bajor.
