Another 8 weeks, another pint of blood. Today I went to the blood drive over at Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Everything was routine, but ended up getting another rookie trying to stick me. Fortunately he didn’t spend that much time trying. Someone else came over and got the vein right away. I had a bag of the Famous Amos Oatmeal Raisin cookies instead of my normal Chocolate Chip, not bad.
I usually get a sticker telling me when I can donate again, didn’t get one this time for some reason. No worries just have to count 8 weeks from now. I’m lazy so I use the online form here, it is toward the bottom of the page on the left. March 14 is my next donate date.
Did you know in the state of Maryland if you are 16 years of age you can donate blood? You just need written permission of a parent or legal guardian.
Did you know that 50% of the US population is eligible to donate blood, yet only 5 percent actually donate?
Did you know there were 30 blood drives today in the Maryland, Virginia area alone, and almost that many tomorrow?

Do you believe, as someone somewhere perhaps does, that meetings, meetings, meetings, followed by more meetings are altogether a good thing? If so, Alexandra Luong and Steven G Rogelberg think you should think again. In a newly published study, they say: “We propose that despite the fact that meetings may help to achieve work-related goals, having too many meetings and spending too much time in meetings per day may have negative effects on the individual.” [.continue.]
I totally agree more
By why risk it, lets get rid of meetings altogether.

Ten Reasons Why You Should Never Accept a Diamond Ring from Anyone, Under Any Circumstances, Even If They Really Want to Give You One
Reasons 1 thru 3 are good enough for me, although the rest sound a lot more sinister.
1. You’ve Been Psychologically Conditioned To Want a Diamond
2. Diamonds are Priced Well Above Their Value
3. Diamonds Have No Resale or Investment Value
I guess diamonds are like hotdogs. Everyone likes them but no one wants to see how they are made or in diamonds case, mined.

We have all seen this in movies, some guy shooting a padlock off the door in one shot. But does that actually work?
This guy puts the locks to the test.

When the Firm Foundation Worship Center got the call that a family of nine escaping Hurricane Katrina had arrived in Westminster needing a house, church members jumped into action.
“They came here with nothing,” said Marge DiMaggio, the church’s co-pastor.
As quickly as possible, church members made a house on church property look like a home.
When the Brown family left on Sunday, the DiMaggios were horrified to find the house in shambles. [.continue.]
While it can be demeaning according to Graning, that is not the reason for destruction. I hardly think if I was put in the same situation I would have responded in the same way. I would be very appreciated to the church giving me and my family a free place to stay with really not any bills to pay. I would focus my ‘frustration’ into starting over, getting a job, establishing myself, etc. I suspect the Brown’s social and economic situation in Louisiana before the hurricane had a greater impact on their behavior here in Maryland than anything else.
